Sandwiched between a nail salon and a bar at 240 Dekalb Avenue, Two Steps Down is unassuming at first glance for any passerby. It looks just like any other brownstone in the neighborhood. However, at a closer look, the NYC issued restaurant letter "A" grade plastered on its glass door reveals its identity. It is a basement-level eatery with a bar upstairs, owned by three inter-generational women of the Mayo family that have been dishing out homey soul food classics since 1969 to the masses and celebrities alike. It has transformed itself from a sandwich shop with an antique shop upstairs, to a full-service white table clothed restaurant and bar, to a catering business, special events, and karaoke Friday nights. It is a place of community making and celebrations. We invite you to come Two Steps Down and hear the sounds and stories of this cherished establishment that many call home for its fiftieth anniversary.
